Perhaps it is a remote place on the water or perhaps it is what I like to think: it’s late in the season and this little family decided to spend one more afternoon on the water before the days grow shorter and colder.
How many of us get so enmeshed in the “I should do this or that” of everyday life that we forget to spend the afternoon doing something that we enjoy? I know I’m guilty of doing this.
Mark and I trying to do better at spending enjoyable time together on the weekends. While a large part of me wants to stay at home and work on weekend things — (I am such a homebody and have enjoyed many a weekend not once leaving the house) — we decided last weekend to hit the road and attend an SFA football game. Although the experience was partly excruciating — it is so painful watching a football team get stomped! — we thoroughly enjoyed our little adventure.

I fail miserably at this! I am going to print this out and put it on my front door so that when I come and go I can have the reminder right there in my face. I cannot tell you how many days off I have spent ‘feeling’ super busy while not doing anything productive at all! I have great plans to do ‘weekend stuff’ and barely manage to get that going. We are looking forward to our next trip to Palestine in November so that we can take a break from the stuff that keeps my brain so busy. Problem with that is we end up working so hard on things. Last time I was actually miserably beaten down by how hard we worked. Shelley managed to call me one morning from the Alto police station to tell me she had no idea how to get back. At least she was having an adventure. We have barely explored the area. Our average day is home, breakfast, home, lowes, walmart, home, lowes, home, lowes, home, walmart, home, dinner, home. This November I am relaxing! (At least that is my plan 44 days in advance). It is a crazy life! Last night we were talking and Shelley stated it seems like all we do is work, eat, sleep and work. And it does. We should all take a break whenever we can! Our American culture is too seriously into work. Thank you for the reminder!

That’s a good idea (printing it out as a reminder). I may do that myself. You must promise me, Bill, to email me when you and Shelley arrive in Palestine in November. I would love to meet you!

Guilty of this too. Sometimes we are just too busy that we forget to spend quality time with our loved ones and enjoy the afternoon. Watching the sunset is en enjoyable activity to do. Will do my best to spend the afternoon. Thanks for a such a great read.
